The Latvian Academy of Sport Education is the only education institution of a specialized university type in Latvia that trains sport specialists.

The Academy was founded on September 6, 1921 as the Latvian Institute of Physical Education, but in 8. November 1991 it was renamed as the Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE). LASE is an accredited (14.07.1998) state higher education institution, the studies are held in the Latvian language. The Constitution of the Academy was affirmed on July 8, 1998 by order of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Republic of Latvia Nr 352.

The Latvian Academy of Sport Education is a state higher education institution that realizes accredited study programmes to train specialists to work in education, sport, state, municipal institutions and organizations as they have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to lead and organize education, sport, health promoting and other activities.

Starting with the academic year 2010/2011 the following accredited study programmes will be offered:

 

•    College level professional higher education programme Education and Sport Specialist

Provides professional qualification – a coach of a definite kind of sport (sports game, swimming, athletics, skiing, tourism, judo, wrestling, gymnastics, a.o.). The studies last for 4 semesters.

 

•    Professional Bachelor study programme Sport Science

Having studied for 8 semesters in full time studies the graduates obtain professional Bachelor degree in Sport Science, as well as education and sport specialty with the following qualifications:

+ a sports teacher and a sports manager,

+ a sports teacher and a recreation specialist,

+ a senior coach of a definite sport and a sports manager,

+ a sports teacher and a senior coach of a definite sport,

+ a senior coach of a definite sport and a recreation specialist.

+ physiotherapist.

 

•    Professional Master study programme Sport Science

The studies last for 3.5 semesters.
Provides professional Master degree in Sport Science and education and sport specialty with the qualification:

+ a sports teacher,

+ a senior coach of a definite sport,

+ a sports manager and

+ a recreation specialist.

 

•    Doctoral study programme Sport Science

Provides the scientific degree – PhD in Sports Science.
The studies last for 7 semesters.

Entrance requirements

International undergraduate applicants for studies at LASE must have completed their secondary education and must possess university eligibility in their own country.

Application procedure

EU citizens
An applicant should send the following documents by post:

  1. Completed application form; application form;
  2. Curriculum Vitae (applying for Master’s or Doctoral study programme: including scientific publications, participation in scientific conferences, in-service training and seminars);
  3. Official copy of the certificate of secondary education and mark register with translation in English or Latvian in case the original is not one of these languages;
  4. Official copy of the latest graduation certificate (applying for Master’s or Doctoral study programme) with translation in English or Latvian in case the original is not one of these languages;
  5. Research project on the topic chosen for research (applying for Master’s or Doctoral study programme);
  6. Official copy of the Latvian or English language certificate (preferable)
  7. Copy of passport (all pages including EMPTY pages);
  8. 4 photos (3 x 4 cm or 1.18 x 1.57 in);
  9. Payment order for 100 EUR registration fee (non-refundable) certified by bank;
  10. Medical report Medical report 
    (General conclusion by the doctor, stating that the applicant is practically healthy and can study in professional programme in sport including physical load; stamp, signature, text clearly readable in English or Latvian language.)
  11. Recommendation (applying for Doctoral study programme).
    Having received the mentioned documents, LASE will post the applicant an agreement form. One copy should be signed and returned to LASE together with the check or bank transfer copy of the annual tuition fee to the LASE account:

To get the invitation for the studies at LASE, an applicant should send the following documents by post:

  1. Completed application form; application form;
  2. 2) Curriculum Vitae (applying for Master’s or Doctoral study programme: including scientific publications, participation in scientific conferences, in-service training and seminars);
  3. Official copy of the certificate of secondary education and mark register with translation in English or Latvian in case the original is not one of these languages;

  5. Research project on the topic chosen for research (applying for Master’s or Doctoral study programme);

  7. Police Clearance Certificate (stating that not involved in any criminal activities in home country)
  8. Official copy of the Latvian or English language certificate (preferable)
  9. Copy of passport (all pages including EMPTY pages);
  10. 4 photos (3 x 4 cm or 1.18 x 1.57 in);
  11. Document confirming the necessary subsistence (at least 230 EUR per month);
  12. Payment order for 100 EUR registration fee (non-refundable) certified by bank;
  13. Recommendation (applying for Doctoral study programme).

The documents 3) 4) 6) 7) must be legalized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the country of origin. EU and EEA citizens are not required to submit the documents 7) and 11).

Having received the mentioned documents, LASE will send the applicant an agreement form. One copy should be signed and returned to LASE together with the check or bank transfer copy of the annual tuition fee to the LASE account (refundable to the bank account listed in the application form, if a visa or residence permit is denied).
